Uruguay and Paraguay meet each other in the final game of this year’s Copa America competition. The two teams have performed very well throughout the whole tournament and their places in the final are well deserved. The big game will be played at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires and promises to be a really tough game between two teams that rely heavily on the stable performance at the back.
Uruguay conceded only three goals in the competition and despite finishing 2nd in their preliminary group the team led by Oscar Tabarez are on their way of claiming a record-breaking 15th title of South America on Sunday evening. Uruguay managed to throw out of the competition the hosts and favourites Argentina on the quarterfinals after a penalty shoot-out and in the semi-final against Peru on Wednesday the team’s top goalscorer Luis Suarez was on fire getting on the scoresheet twice. Tabarez will most probably not make any changes to his side that has done really well so far.
Paraguay produced the other big shock in the tournament knocking out Brazil after penalties. The Guarani finished 3rd in their preliminary group but with a lot of luck they managed to sneak past Brazil and in the semi-finals they were again quite lucky not to lose against Venezuela where again penalties decided the faith of the other finalist. Captain and goalkeeper Just Villar seems to be the star performer for Paraguay at this tournament and everyone in the country will pray for another top display from the veteran. Paraguay have kept three clean sheets from the five games played and the performance at the back will be once again key.
There has not been a single draw in the last four games between these two teams but having in mind the nature of a such big final I think none of the sides will want to risk anything in the regular time so the draw at 3.10 looks worth the risk.
