Young Boys Bern take on champions Basel in the most exciting game from the first round of the new season in the Switzerland Super League. The game will be played at Stade de Suisse in Bern at kicks off at 19:15 GMT on Saturday. Both teams have clearly not reached their peak form at the moment and my prediction here is for a tight game so the draw at 3.50 looks to be worth the risk.
Young Boys finished last season in third place and they will be looking to at least replicate their performance in the new campaign. They are still not involved in the Europa League preliminary rounds so the team will be fully focused when they go out on Saturday for the first game of the season against Basel. Young Boys performed very well in the friendly games they were involved in June so they will be confident of their abilities. The team’s results in front of their own fans have not been brilliant and they drew seven of the last fifteen games which is a very high percentage.
Basel were again crowned champions of Switzerland last season and they will be willing to defend their title. However, the visit to Bern is one of the hardest games for the season and the champions might not push to the limit for the three points. Basel are also not involved in the UEFA Champions League yet so they will field the best eleven on Saturday. The team did well in the pre-season friendly games winning the last one against West Ham (2:1). Basel drew four of the last five away games in the Swiss Super League so this result looks highly probable if we are to rely on statistics.
Moreover, three of the last four games between the two teams that were played at Young Boys finished without a winner.
