Tottenham welcome AC Milan in the second leg of one of the most exciting ties in the Last 16 in the UEFA Champions League this week. The home side won the first leg in Italy 1:0 and they will go out full of confidence at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. However, the great form of Milan this season and their much bigger experience are good arguments in favour of the away win.
Tottenham have had quite a decent season this year and they are currently sitting in 5th place in the English Premier League equal on points with 4th placed Chelsea. This means that they still have a good chance of getting into the Champions League next season. However, the team threw away the lead against Wolverhampton at the weekend and the game finished 3:3 which means the Spurs have now let in 6 goals in their last two games in the league. Milan will definitely look to expose the defensive woes of the team which are not eased by the injuries of King, Corluka, Woodgate, and Kaboul. Bale will play against Milan after coming on as a sub against Wolves but Van der Vaart remains doubtful which will weaken their attack.
AC Milan, on the other hand, have been brilliant this season and they are convincingly leading the way in the Italian Serie A ahead of arch rivals Inter Milan. The Rossonerri won the derby game against Juventus on Saturdya 1:0 thanks to a goal from Genarro Gatuso – his first for three years. Milan were quite unlucky not to get at least a goal in the first leg and they seem pumped up to correct this on Wednesday. Milan have won 8 and drawn 3 of the last 11 games away from home in all competitions and their chances of progression against Tottenham Hotspur do not look so bad.
All in all, a difficult game to predict but I think that the great odds for the away win are worth the risk, given the experience and form of AC Milan.
